McBryde Sugar Company, one of the first sugar growers in Hawaii, occupied large agricultural farms on the island of Kauai in the 1800’s. As the sugarcane and pineapple industry came to a decline, the coffee industry rose. Kauai Coffee Company moved onto these ripe lands in 1987 and year round coffee production began.
The Kauai Coffee venture experienced a massive setback in 1992, when Hurricane Iniki inflicted millions of dollars of damages to the coffee crops. The future of the company, and the entire island was in question. However, the economy made a full come back, and in 1996, Kauai Coffee’s harvest exceeded the volume of coffee produced by the entire Kona region.
In the last 15 years of operation, Kauai Coffee has invested in all aspects of coffee manufacturing and processing. The company currently prides itself in being a large producer of coffee nation wide, as well as being on the forefront of mastering the art of producing the ideal coffee bean.
